Saving Gaia the mobile phone way.

"Everything to lose, don't thrash it!"
A worthy quote.

"In memory of your old phones.
Old phones can be recycled into different things like trumpets,
rollercoasters or even this park bench you're sitting on.
Give the world a helping hand and recycle your old phone."

Saw this at a Nokia outlet.

And they CARE… for the people.

'Help us to create a better tomorrow'

Comet

Reading this on Yahoo
by Stevie Smith - Oct21 2009, 15:30 Halley's Comet may not be expected to once again
brighten our night skies until 2061

I was excited about seeing ANY comet from our ground.

Threatening Sky

Did you see this last week?
Viewed from Benjamin Shears Bridge.

Just to keep this here,
as a reminder of the frightening weather.
There have been many devastating natural disasters happening round the world lately.

This excellent clip posted by '747TakeMeAway747'
Shows the destruction that happen in the
passed 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami.
Will not be forgotten.
Learn from it.

Especially important when living in or traveling to tsunami prone areas.

Read this section on 'Tsunami Warning Signs' Awareness of Tsunami Warning Signs is vital when travelling through or living in tsunami prone areas. An earthquake is a natural tsunami warning. If you feel a strong quake, do not stay in a place where you may be exposed to a tsunami. Listen to the radio or television for any information or alerts. If you are subscribed to TsunamiSMS make sure your mobile phone is always switched on and that the ring tone is loud enough to hear, even when you are asleep. If you have not yet taken the precaution to subscribe to TsunamiSMS
Witnesses have reported that an approaching tsunami is sometimes preceded by a noticeable fall or rise in the water level. If you see the ocean receding unusually rapidly or far it's a sign that a big wave may be on its way. Go to high ground immediately or make your way at least five kilometers inland.
Remember that a tsunami is a series of waves and that the first wave may not be the most dangerous. The danger from a tsunami can last for several hours after the arrival of the first wave. A tsunami wave train may come as a series of surges that are five minutes to an hour apart. The cycle may be marked by a repeated retreat and advance of the ocean. Stay out of danger until you hear it is safe.

Pollution!!!

Strolling along the seafront at
Vivocity can be quite breathtaking.
The scenic view and the fresh sea breeze
makes it all a pleasant and calming evening stroll.

One evening, during our nightly promenade, I was shocked!
when I saw this..

Eclipse 2009

A Solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth so that the Sun is fully or partially covered. This happens when the Sun and the moon are in alignment.

A lovely crescent... it's actually a picture of the eclipse on 22nd July, 2009.
Taken in China.
I manage to capture some clips that were LIVE from China
by Channel NewsAsia.
Observe the time and see the movement.
At 9:12 am
After 2 minutes, at 9:14 am
Then at 9:26 am
When in alignment.. darkness
As seen on the inset, lights were turned on.
The sky getting dark.
Below is a quick video on the movement.

I could not catch this phenomenon in China.
THANKS to CHANNEL NEWSASIA I didn't miss it.
The next eclipse of this series will be on June 13, 2132
That's 123 years later.
Wow! it's a once in a lifetime experience.

According to Wikipedia :
'This solar eclipse was the longest total solar eclipse to occur in the 21st century, and will not be surpassed in duration until 13 June 2132.
Totality lasted for up to 6 minutes and 39 seconds, with the maximum eclipse occurring in the ocean at 02:35:21 UTC about 100 km south of the
Bonin Islands, southeast of Japan.'

Reported in the papers the following day...
Some lucky people, got the chance to see it live.
Although there were some disappointments.

According to this video you can locate a galaxy with just a pair of binoculars
