A Solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth so that the Sun is fully or partially covered. This happens when the Sun and the moon are in alignment.
A lovely crescent... it's actually a picture of the eclipse on 22nd July, 2009.
Taken in China.
I manage to capture some clips that were LIVE from China
by Channel NewsAsia.

The next eclipse of this series will be on June 13, 2132
That's 123 years later.
Wow! it's a once in a lifetime experience.
According to Wikipedia :
'This solar eclipse was the longest total solar eclipse to occur in the 21st century, and will not be surpassed in duration until 13 June 2132.
Totality lasted for up to 6 minutes and 39 seconds, with the maximum eclipse occurring in the ocean at 02:35:21 UTC about 100 km south of the
Bonin Islands, southeast of Japan.'
Reported in the papers the following day...
Some lucky people, got the chance to see it live.
Although there were some disappointments.
According to this video you can locate a galaxy with just a pair of binoculars
